Nashville Man Dies after Getting Struck by Car Near Downtown

A 28-year-old man was hit by a car and later died from his injuries in Nashville, Tennessee, Monday night.

According to a report by wsmv.com, the accident occurred around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Lafayette Street and Second Avenue South. As the man was crossing Lafayette Street, he was struck by a Ford Econovan driven by a 31-year-old woman who is also from Nashville.

Nashville Metro Police stated that the victim was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident and wasn’t using a crosswalk when the vehicle struck him.

When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they originally thought the victim’s injuries were minor. However, after he was transported to the hospital, doctors discovered he had severe internal injuries which proved fatal just a few hours later.

There are currently no charges pending against the driver of the Econovan, and police say there is no evidence she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

The Gallatin car accident attorneys at Matt Hardin Law extended our condolences to the family of the man who was killed in this tragic accident.

Reasons to See a Doctor Immediately after a Traffic-Related Accident

Many car accidents or pedestrian accidents cause internal injuries that may not be evident right away. It’s important to see a doctor immediately after accidents like these for several reasons, including:

  • It gives doctors a chance to diagnose or treat possible internal injuries.

Serious accidents can cause serious trauma to the body. When the body is subjected to high levels of force commonly seen in car accidents or pedestrian accidents, cuts, broken bones, and head injuries aren’t just the only outcomes. Victims also may suffer internal bleeding or damage to their internal organs that are difficult or impossible to see and can remain asymptomatic. Doctors can look for, diagnose, and treat internal injuries before they cause serious complications.

  • It gives you and your attorney access to medical reports.

Accident victims who file claims often have a better chance of recovering full compensation if they have proof that the accident wasn’t their fault or if they have proof of the severity and type of their injuries. Going to a doctor not only helps protect your health and well-being, but it also serves as valuable evidence when your Gallatin car accident lawyer files a claim for compensation.

  • It leaves little doubt about what caused your injuries.

Insurance companies are always looking for ways to either deny or reduce settlements after accidents. Waiting for days, weeks, or even months to see a doctor after your accident can seriously jeopardize your claim, as it not only makes your injuries appear less serious than they actually are, but it also allows the insurance company to call into question whether your injuries were even caused by the car accident in the first place.

At Matt Hardin Law, our Gallatin car accident attorneys know that you are busy and may not have time to see a doctor immediately after your accident—especially if your injuries don’t seem serious or prevent you from working. But to better protect your own health and chances of receiving full compensation, it’s vital that you see a doctor as soon as possible.
