Accident on Interstate 65 Blocks Traffic Monday Morning

A serious accident that involved an overturned vehicle stalled traffic for an extended period of time Monday morning on Interstate 65 near Briley Parkway in Nashville, Tennessee.

According to a report by The Tennessean and data obtained from the Tennessee Department of Transportation traffic map, the accident occurred around 6:40 a.m. near mile marker 91.

The impact of the collision caused one vehicle to roll over onto its roof. Nashville Metro Police reported that the accident caused injuries, but also stated that no one was trapped or pinned inside the vehicle and that all occupants were able to get out safely.

There is currently no word on the severity of the injuries suffered by the victims in this crash or how many vehicles were involved. Tennessee highway workers and emergency crews were able to clear the accident scene shortly after the wreck occurred and all lanes of southbound traffic on I-65 in Nashville are now clear.

The Nashville car accident lawyers at Matt Hardin Law hope the victims of this accident experience complete recoveries from their injuries soon.

What Makes Rollover Crashes So Dangerous?

Rollover crashes have a higher incidence of fatalities and serious injuries than other types of crashes. Most of that is due to the extreme nature of these types of accidents, as it generally requires a large amount of force to cause a vehicle to flip onto its side or roof. In turn, that force is also absorbed by drivers and passengers inside those vehicles.

Some of the reasons that make rollover crashes more dangerous than other types of crashes include:

  • The risk of being ejected from the vehicle

Car accident victims who are ejected from their vehicles are much more likely to experience debilitating or life-threatening injuries than victims who remain inside their vehicles. Because of the forces generated during rollover accidents, drivers and passengers are much more likely to thrown through the windshield or other windows of the vehicle during these types of crashes.

  • The risk of getting pinned inside the vehicle

Because the impact of rollover accidents can cause significant damage to the structure and frames of vehicles, victims are at risk of getting trapped inside or even having parts of their bodies pinned under the wreckage. When this happens, injuries that cause external or internal bleeding can become life-threatening, as paramedics may be unable to reach the victims in time.

  • The risk of getting struck by loose objects

Rollover crashes cause every object inside of vehicles to move around at high speeds and with huge amounts of force. Drivers and passengers are at risk of not only colliding with each other during these types of accidents, but also of being struck by loose objects in their vehicles. In addition, pieces of debris from accidents can also strike rollover accident victims before their cars come to rest.

  • The risk of vehicle fires

When vehicles flip onto their sides or end up upside down, the impact on their engines and even their gas tanks can cause fuel to leak and sparks to form. All it takes is a small spark coming into contact with leaking gasoline to start a vehicle fire that can quickly get out of control. Vehicle fires are extremely dangerous to the victims of car accidents, as they can spread fast and without warning.
