1 Killed in Warren County Car Accident on Tuesday

A 50-year-old man from Watertown, Tennessee, was killed in a car accident involving two vehicles in Warren County last Tuesday morning.

According to a report by the Herald-Citizen, the accident occurred around 10 a.m. on Short Mountain Road. The man was driving a 1979 Oldsmobile when the vehicle crossed the center line of traffic and collided head-on with a Chevy Malibu sedan.

The impact of the collision caused the driver of the Oldsmobile to suffer fatal injuries, while his passenger, a 40-year-old woman from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was injured. The driver of the Chevy Malibu, a 41-year-old woman from McMinnville, Tennessee, was also injured during the collision.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the accident and determined that both the driver and passenger in the Oldsmobile were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, but the driver of the Chevy Malibu was not wearing hers.

In addition, the THP’s investigation also turned up evidence that indicated that driver of the Oldsmobile may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

No charges are pending at this time, but the investigation into the cause of the accident will continue.

What Should You Do after a Car Accident?

If you’ve just been involved in a car accident, calmly following through on a step-by-step plan may be difficult or even impossible—especially if you or someone you love suffered injuries in the accident. While it’s true that taking the right steps after an accident can help protect your chances of receiving maximum compensation, it’s important to remember that your health and safety always come first.

After an accident, do your best to remember these three steps, as they can make a big difference when it comes to protecting your health and your right to pursue damages for your medical bills and lost wages:

  • If you or anyone else is injured, get medical attention right away.

Your health or the health of your loved ones is your top priority after an accident. If anyone involved in the accident is injured, call 911 immediately and provide as much information about the accident as possible, including where it occurred, how many people are injured, and how severe the injuries are. It’s also important that you see a doctor right away after the accident even if you don’t think you were seriously injured to rule out possible internal damage and to get a full medical report.

  • Contact your insurance company to report the accident.

Auto insurance providers require their customers to report car accidents within a short timeframe after they occur in order to be eligible to receive compensation for their accident-related expenses. Call your insurance company and report the accident as soon as possible, but stick to the facts and don’t admit fault or downplay the other driver’s role in causing the accident.

  • Contact an experienced Cookeville car accident attorney.

After you or your loved ones have been treated and you’ve reported the accident, get an attorney on your side as soon as possible. The sooner you contact a lawyer, the sooner he or she can begin collecting evidence and building the strongest case possible to present to the insurance company while also proving the other driver’s negligence. Evidence can quickly disappear in car accident cases, so it’s important to call right away.

Although there are many smaller steps car accident victims can take in the minutes, hours, and days after their accidents, following these three simple steps can go a long way towards protecting both your health and your rights to receive maximum compensation for your accident-related expenses.
