Posted in Car Accident,Tennessee Accident Law on June 15, 2017

Five vehicles were involved in a serious collision in Montgomery County on Saturday, and multiple people were transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

Clarksville Now reports that first responders with multiple Montgomery County agencies were called to the scene of the five-vehicle crash, which happened on Dover Rd. near Oakwood Rd. between noon and 1 p.m.

Police closed several lanes as they worked to clear the scene and allow emergency responders access to the victims.

Two of the vehicles involved in the crash rolled over, and another vehicle burst into flames, causing a nearby vehicle to also sustain fire damage.

Police say that up to eight people were injured in the five-vehicle crash, and all were transported to local hospitals. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Emergency Medical Service, and Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene to assist.

There’s no information on what caused the accident.

What Are Common Causes of Multi-Vehicle Crashes?

Multi-vehicle accidents aren’t as common as single-vehicle crashes or accidents involving two vehicles, but when they do happen, drivers and passengers face serious risks. In many cases, vehicles involved in these types of crashes are struck multiple times in different directions, putting occupants at a high risk of suffering life-threatening injuries. And while it’s difficult to avoid these accidents due to their unpredictability, knowing their common causes can help you reduce your risks.

Some of the most common causes of multi-vehicle accidents include:

  • Inclement weather

When anything interferes with drivers’ ability to see in front of them or maintain control over their vehicles, their risk of being involved in accidents increases. Conditions such as rain, snow, ice, and fog can all significantly increase the risk of multi-vehicle accidents, as drivers may find it more difficult to see in front of them and to slow down, stop, or swerve to avoid crashes.

  • Following too closely

Many multi-vehicle crashes occur as a chain-reaction of fender-benders or more serious rear-end collisions. These types of crashes happen when vehicles are traveling closely together in dense traffic. All it takes is one driver slamming on his or her brakes to cause a pile-up, as the other drivers may not have time to react and slow down or stop without colliding into the vehicles in front of them.

  • Rubbernecking

Not only are victims of accidents vulnerable immediately after they occur, but drivers and passengers who pass through the area are also vulnerable. It’s tempting for drivers to take their eyes and minds off the road when they pass accident scenes, but doing so puts them at risk of causing multi-vehicle accidents, striking emergency responders, or even crashing into the vehicles that were involved in the initial accident.

  • Speeding

Driving over the speed limit is a major cause of all types of car accidents, including multi-vehicle crashes. When drivers travel at speeds that are faster than recommended for a street, highway, or interstate, they’re more likely to lose control or be unable to stop when approaching intersections, stop signs, and curves. That often results in crashes, including ones that involve one or more additional vehicles.

Victims of multi-vehicle crashes often suffer serious injuries that require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. They may be too hurt to go back to work for weeks, months, or even years, making it difficult for them to provide for their families—especially when they’re facing expensive medical bills. At Matt Hardin Law, we believe that innocent victims should never have to pay out of pocket for crashes that weren’t their fault.
