Injuries Reported after Two Vehicles Damaged during Rollover Accident

Two vehicles were involved in a rollover crash in Clarksville on Wednesday evening, causing two people to suffer injuries.

Per a report by WKRN.com, the accident happened at around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Cunningham Lane in Montgomery County. The vehicles involved in the accident included a white GMC Envoy SUV and a gray Pontiac Grand Am. The Envoy rolled over and came to rest on its roof.

Both drivers were injured during the accident. One of the drivers suffered only minor injuries, but the other driver was more seriously injured and was transported to Tennova Healthcare to receive treatment for his or her injuries. Clarksville Police say that he or she is currently in stable condition.

After an investigation by the CPD, it was revealed that one of the drivers was turning from Fort Campbell Boulevard to Cunningham Lane and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, which may have caused the accident. The driver that failed to yield was cited for failure to use reasonable care.

Emergency responders closed the intersection for a little more than one hour as they worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash. It was reopened at around 7 p.m.

4 Common Rollover Accident Injuries

Although top-heavy vehicles like SUVs, trucks, and vans are more likely to be involved in rollover accidents than other types of vehicles, crashes can put any vehicle at risk of flipping onto its side or roof. Drivers and passengers face extreme risks of serious injuries during rollover accidents, even when they’re buckled up.

Some of the most common rollover accident injuries include:

  • Head, neck, and spine injuries

Victims of rollover accidents are subject to huge amounts of force as their vehicles flip and roll. The violent motion of these accidents can put stress of their necks and spines, resulting in whiplash and even spinal injuries. In some cases, victims may suffer from partial or complete paralysis. In addition, victims also may hit their heads on their seats, dashboard, steering wheel, or loose objects, putting them at risk of suffering brain injuries.

  • Cuts and lacerations

Broken glass and loose objects can strike victims’ bodies at high speeds during rollover accidents, resulting in serious cuts and lacerations. These injuries can be life-threatening if they involve substantial blood loss, and they require immediate medical attention.

  • Crushing injuries

The frames of many vehicles aren’t built to withstand the forces generated during rollover accidents, especially when they occur at high speed. When a vehicle’s frame brakes, bends, or crumples during a rollover accident, the driver or passengers can become trapped and even crushed by it, causing both serious injuries and trapping them inside the wreckage.

  • Soft tissue and internal injuries

The extreme forces generated by rollover accidents can also be extremely harmful for soft tissue and internal organs. Sudden and violent movements caused by a rolling vehicle can cause victims to suffer torn ligaments, muscles, and tendons throughout their bodies. In addition, they also may suffer internal bleeding and ruptured organs due to the force of the accident.

In addition to needing immediate and often life-saving medical treatment, victims of rollover accidents frequently face long roads to recovery. They may have recuperation times that last for weeks, months, or even years—and during that time they may be unable to work and provide for their families.
