Intoxicated Driver Crashes Vehicle into Memphis Apartment Building

A 29-year-old man from Nashville, Tennessee, was charged with driving under the influence Wednesday night after he drove his Ford Expedition SUV into an apartment building in Memphis and nearly struck a pregnant woman inside the residence.

According to a report by the Commercial Appeal, the accident occurred around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at the 3500 block of Midland Avenue off Highland. When police apprehended the man at the accident scene, they smelled alcohol on his breath and discovered that he also had no car insurance.

Police then asked the man if he had been drinking, and he responded that he had consumed three beers before getting behind the wheel of his SUV.

The man was taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment and is being charged with driving under the influence, public intoxication and driving without insurance. The pregnant woman inside the apartment complex said she was suffering from stomach pains after the accident but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Matt Hardin Law’s Memphis car accident lawyers are glad the pregnant woman wasn’t seriously injured in this accident, and we also applaud police for getting the intoxicated driver off the streets.

Why Should You Seek Medical Attention Right Away after Car Accidents?

If you’re ever involved in a car accident of any kind, it’s important that you seek medical attention right away for several reasons, such as:

  • It protects your health.

There’s nothing more valuable than your health and well-being after a car accident. Many victims of car accidents may feel fine immediately after a car accident and refuse treatment at a hospital or even after the accident scene, but they may not realize they’re hurt due to adrenaline and shock. However, many car accidents lead to internal injuries that aren’t noticeable until hours or even days after the accident occurs. By seeing a doctor or other healthcare professional immediately after the accident, you can receive preventative care that will reduce the risks of complications.

  • It protects your rights to compensation.

When car accident victims file claims for compensation, insurance companies and their adjusters do everything in their power to reduce or deny the amount of money they owe—and that includes researching as many details about the claim as possible. If you wait too long to receive treatment for your injuries or never seek treatment at all, the insurance company will have a stronger case for denying your claim, as it may appear that your injuries aren’t as severe as you claim. A medical report filed immediately after your accident can serve as valuable evidence for your attorney.

  • It gives you a better prognosis of your future.

Car accidents aren’t just traumatic in the present—they can also cause serious consequences for the rest of your lifetime. Some of the effects of serious car accidents include partial or complete paralysis, disability, and severe pain—and those can all affect your ability to work and earn a living. By seeing a doctor or specialist soon after your car accident, you’ll get a better idea of the lifestyle you can expect in the months, years, or even decades to come. Using that information, your attorneys will be able to build a claim with an accurate estimate for the amount of compensation you deserve for your current and future expenses.
