Intoxicated Driver Crashes Vehicle into Memphis Apartment Building
A 29-year-old man from Nashville, Tennessee, was charged with driving under the influence Wednesday night after he drove his Ford Expedition SUV into an apartment building in Memphis and nearly struck a pregnant woman inside the residence.
According to a report by the Commercial Appeal, the accident occurred around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at the 3500 block of Midland Avenue off Highland. When police apprehended the man at the accident scene, they smelled alcohol on his breath and discovered that he also had no car insurance.
Police then asked the man if he had been drinking, and he responded that he had consumed three beers before getting behind the wheel of his SUV.
The man was taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment and is being charged with driving under the influence, public intoxication and driving without insurance. The pregnant woman inside the apartment complex said she was suffering from stomach pains after the accident but refused medical treatment at the scene.
