Truck Driver Injures Pedestrian, Damages Home in West Nashville

The driver of a white F-150 pickup truck seriously injured a pedestrian and caused significant damage to a home after he slammed into the side of the building in Nashville, Tennessee, Monday morning.

A staff report by wkrn.com says that the driver struck the pedestrian around 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening near Charlotte Avenue. The victim suffered injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

Shortly after, police responded to a call of the F-150 pickup truck slamming into the side of a West Nashville home and ending up inside a bedroom. No one was inside the home at the time of the accident.

The driver of the F-150 was apprehended by police after he came home covered in blood and his roommate called the police. When questioned by Nashville Metro Police, the driver admitted that he had recently been involved in a crash and that he had struck a pedestrian with his vehicle.

After questioning by police, the man was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment. He is being charged with felony vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving without a valid license.

How Do Police Locate Hit-and-Run Drivers after Accidents?

When a driver causes a car accident, strikes a pedestrian, or significantly damages someone’s property, they not only have a civil responsibility to stop and face the consequences of the accident—it’s also required by law. When drivers flee the scene of an accident, they’re not only breaking the law, they’re also depriving their victims of the change to receive the compensation they deserve.

Thankfully, police have many methods for locating hit-and-run drivers, such as:

  • Witnesses and anonymous tips

The most valuable information police often receive after hit-and-run accidents are either tips from witnesses or from anonymous people who know the whereabouts of the driver. Whether the person who alerts police is simply someone who saw the vehicle or someone with a close connection to the driver, such as a family member or friend, their reports can quickly put an end to search that otherwise may take days, weeks, or months.

  • Reviewing traffic camera footage

If the accident occurred in an urban area, there’s a good chance it was caught on film either by a traffic camera located at an intersection or on a security camera used by a private business. Police can review traffic and security camera footage to get a clear description of the vehicle and even its license plate number to quickly track down a list of locations where the suspect might be.

  • Enlisting the help of news outlets

In some cases, police may simply run out of leads and tips for locating the driver. If that happens, they may enlist the help of the local community by turning to media and news outlets for help by asking for information about the accident and the suspect. These appeals often turn up new information that police can then use to find the driver who caused the accident.

Matt Hardin Law’s team of Nashville car accident attorneys knows that victims of hit-and-run drivers are often left waiting for weeks, months, or even years to get resolution in their cases. While police may be able to locate some hit-and-run suspects immediately, others may take years to be found, and some are never apprehended at all.

However, if you or someone you love was injured in a hit-and-run accident and the driver is still at large, you still may be eligible to receive compensation for your accident-related expenses.
