Downtown Nashville Building Collapse Causes Serious Injuries
A 58-year-old woman was seriously injured after a wall of the United Methodist Publishing House crumbled and fell onto her catering truck as she was driving near the area.
According to a report by wmsv.com, the accident occurred Thursday morning near the intersection of 8th Avenue and Demonbreun. The woman’s injuries require that she be transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to receive treatment, but they are believed to be non-life-threatening. Her daughter told reporters that her condition is still being evaluated.
The wall also caused significant damage to a nearby power line and cut out electricity for more than 1,600 Nashville Electric Service customers in the area for several hours. Police and emergency responders closed the street for several hours as they worked to clear the accident and investigate what happened, and the roadway didn’t reopen until around 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Tennessee’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health is currently investigating the building collapse to determine what caused it and to make sure the workers in the area and other motorists won’t be in danger or at risk in the future.
