Head-On Collision in Mt. Juliet Injures 4

A serious head-on collision in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Thursday morning caused four people to suffer severe injuries.

According to a report by wkrn.com, the accident occurred on Lebanon Road near Park Glen Drive. A spokesperson for the Mt. Juliet Police department said that the accident was so severe that two people had to be extricated from their vehicles using special equipment and the work of the Mt. Juliet Fire Department.

The officer went on to say that the accident caused the roadway to close for a brief time and then for traffic to be rerouted around the accident scene while investigators and emergency crews worked to piece together what happened and clean up debris.

The identities, ages, and conditions of the victims of this accident are unknown at this time.

The Mt. Juliet car accident lawyers at Matt Hardin Law hope that the four victims of this head-on collision recover quickly and completely from their injuries.

What Do First Responders Do at Accident Scenes?

Serious accidents like head-on collisions can cause victims to suffer life-threatening injuries. First responders are the emergency medical crews and paramedics who arrive on the scene often within minutes of the accident occurring. It’s their job to stabilize victims by:

  • Assessing victims’ conditions

First responders must treat every accident scene like it’s an emergency room triage situation. They have to quickly determine who is injured and whose injuries are the most severe. The victims with the most severe injuries are those that get treated first. Treatment can range from securing broken limbs to stopping severe bleeding.

  • Resuscitating unresponsive victims

In the case of severe injuries, first responders are trained to perform CPR, which can resuscitate victims with weak or non-existent heartbeats due to trauma sustained in the accident. CPR is an artificial means to circulate blood throughout the body, preserving the functions of the brain and other vital organs until more advanced life-saving measures can be used.

  • Stabilizing victims and getting them out of harm’s way

Auto accident victims can be injured twice after a collision—first during the accident itself and second during the aftermath of the accident due to crushing injuries, burns, smoke inhalation, and more. First responders are trained to quickly assess the situation at car accident scenes and get victims to safety as fast as possible. In some cases, that includes using special tools to extricate victims from vehicle wreckage.

  • Transport victims to hospitals and emergency clinics

Victims who suffer severe injuries often need treatment that goes beyond what emergency responders can provide at the scene. Paramedics are trained to load victims into ambulances and transport them to local hospitals while also providing life-saving treatments along the way. Because of the time-sensitive nature of transporting injured victims to hospitals, paramedics must be skilled drivers and able to remain calm under intense pressure and in high-stress situations.
