There May Be More to the Accident that Claimed the Life of Tennessee Titan’s Kicker

Posted in Aggressive Driving,Car Accident,Personal Injury on September 25, 2014

Earlier this month, it was reported that a former Tennessee Titans kicker, Rob Bironas, lost his life in a fatal single-vehicle traffic accident. His SUV went off the road before running into several trees and finally ended up upside down in a drainage ditch.

Evidently, a 911 call made moments before the former kicker’s death indicated that he may have tried to run another car off the road in what is being described as a potential road rage incident. At 11:03 on the night of the fatal car accident, 911 dispatchers received a call from a driver telling them that she witnessed an accident. At some point, she handed the phone to another woman in the car, who told dispatchers:

He is dangerous, he is drunk or something. He tried to start a fight with us. My husband ran down there to see what is going on. I just want to tell the police there is something wrong with him. He is dangerous, he is drunk, or he is on drugs. There is something wrong with him. He gave us a mean look. We don’t even know him, and he tried to run us off the road.

Police have also since learned that Bironas’ wife reported him missing on the night of the accident. A police investigation is ongoing.

Road Rage Incidents in Tennessee

Road rage, or aggressive driving as it is otherwise known, is a serious problem across the State of Tennessee. In fact, it is estimated that between 5% and 7% of drivers routinely engage in aggressive driving. Each year, hundreds of people are involved in otherwise preventable accidents due to aggressive driving. Sadly, some of these accidents are fatal.

Not only is it against the law in Tennessee, but aggressive driving can also be the basis of a civil lawsuit for damages against the aggressive driver. In such cases, the victim of the aggressive driving accident must prove that the aggressive driver was negligent in operating his or her vehicle and that such negligence was the cause of the crash.

Have You Been the Victim of an Aggressive Driving Accident?

If you or a loved one has recently been involved in an accident due to aggressive driving, you may be entitled to monetary damages to help compensate you for your injuries. However, these types of cases often turn into a he-said-she-said type of situation that can end up leading nowhere for the victim. To help prevent that outcome, speak to a dedicated Tennessee personal injury attorney before filing your case. It may make the difference between dismissal and recovery.
