Montgomery County Crash Sends 4 People to the Hospital

A serious crash in Montgomery County, Tennessee, Tuesday afternoon injured four people, including two young children.

According to wkrn.com, the accident occurred around 1 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 79. Police say that a 68-year-old man was driving west in his Ford F150 pickup truck when a car driven by a 27-year-old woman pulled out in front of him.

The collision caused the 68-year-old man to suffer serious injuries and he was transported to Gateway Medical Center for treatment.

The 27-year-old woman and a two-year-old child and a 5-month-old child were all injured and flown to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital via LifeFlight.

Police said there are no updates on the victims’ conditions at this time, and that charges are pending against the woman because she failed to yield before causing the car accident.

The Clarksville car accident lawyers at Matt Hardin Law hope the victims of this car accident recover quickly and fully from their injuries.

Why Are Yield Signs Important on Roadways?

Some people barely slow down at yield signs, while others ignore them completely. While it’s true that yield signs don’t require that drivers come to a complete stop, they’re still important for several reasons:

  • Yield signs give other drivers a chance to see you.

Slowing down a yield sign gives drivers who are approaching your vehicle a chance to see you and anticipate you entering the roadway. Without yield signs, drivers would have much less time to react to vehicles merging into traffic, and that could cause serious accidents.

  • Yield signs give you a chance to watch for oncoming traffic.

Even if you think the coast is clear, yield signs alert you for the possibility of oncoming traffic. That forces you to slow down and check to see if any vehicles are approaching. By taking just an extra second to check the roadway before you merge, you may be able to avoid colliding with a vehicle you otherwise might not have seen.

  • Yield signs slow down traffic at dangerous intersections.

Dangerous intersections aren’t always four-way stops. In fact, many intersections that see the most accidents are those that features two roads merging into one—which is a common spot for yield signs. By forcing all drivers to slow down, yield signs help reduce the number of accidents and lessen the severity of accidents that do occur.

  • Yield signs alert drivers of potential hazards.

Yield signs aren’t always present as the standard triangle-shaped signs. Flashing yellow lights at an intersection also give drivers the signal to yield, often to alert them that they have the right way but to be cautious for intersecting traffic or road work up ahead. By catching drivers’ attention, flashing lights create more cautious driving circumstances in areas that may be dangerous.
