Multiple Accidents Cause Traffic Delays on Nashville Interstates

Two separate accidents on Nashville interstates Tuesday morning caused traffic to back up until emergency crews were able to clear the wreckage from the roads.

According to a report by The Tennessean, the first accident involved multiple vehicles and occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near Briley Parkway at exit 90.

A spokesperson for the Nashville Metro Police says the accident involved a motorcycle, a tractor-trailer, and a passenger vehicle and that injuries were reported in the crash.

Another accident occurred around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Briley Parkway. The Tennessean’s report on these accidents states that the wreckage was cleared from both accident scenes and that traffic was flowing smoothly again on I-40 and I-65 by 8 a.m.

The Nashville car accident lawyers at Matt Hardin Law hope no one was seriously injured in these accidents and urge drivers to be cautious during their early morning rush hour commutes into the downtown area.

What Do Emergency Crews Do at Car Accident Scenes?

If you drive on Interstate 24, Interstate 40, or Interstate 65 in Middle Tennessee during rush hour, chances are you’ve seen the aftermath of car accidents or even been stuck in traffic for long periods of time while emergency crews clear the accident scene. While it may be inconvenient to be stuck in traffic due to an accident, emergency workers are actually doing important work, including:

  • Treating accident victims for injuries

Car accidents on interstates often occur at high speeds and are likely to cause injuries to drivers and passengers. EMS workers and paramedics are trained to provide immediate emergency care to injured car accident victims by performing CPR, stopping serious bleeding, and pulling victims out of wreckage. They’re also responsible for transporting victims to hospitals for immediate treatment of any injuries that are too serious to treat at the accident scene.

  • Investigating the accident

The statements of drivers, passengers, and witnesses about what caused an accident can be helpful but are often considered unreliable, as people’s memories can be faulty—especially after experiencing or witnessing something as distressing as a car accident. Investigators are trained to look for evidence, such as skid marks, accident debris, and vehicle damage to help determine the events that led up to the accident.

  • Clearing the wreckage from the accident scene

Car accidents can leave behind a significant amount of debris, and in many cases, vehicles become so damaged that they no longer start. That’s why it’s important for clean-up crews to arrive at the accident scene and collect any pieces of debris that can be hazardous to other drivers and load any damaged or disabled vehicles and haul them to a body shop or other repair facility.

  • Repairing damage to the roadway

Serious car accidents don’t just damage vehicles—they can also cause serious damage to roadways. Accidents that cause significant damage to guard rails, dividers, telephone poles, street lights, and other items on or near roadways require professionals who can repair these objects. In some cases, accidents can cause roadways to become unsafe for other drivers, which means repair teams must work quickly.
