Nashville Man Strikes Tow Truck Driver with His Vehicle

A 52-year-old man faces vehicular assault charges after striking a tow truck driver with his vehicle after the operator was attempting to tow it Saturday evening in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

A report by wkrn.com states that the man got in his vehicle and drove it off the tow truck. The vehicle was originally picked up by the wrecker due to being illegally parked in a lot downtown.

As the man drove off the tow truck, he struck the tow truck driver, causing the driver to suffer injuries. The man then drove northbound on Third Avenue North away from the scene.

A short time later, the 52-year-old driver was apprehended by police, arrested, and booked into the Metro jail with charges of vehicular assault.

The Nashville car accident attorneys at Matt Hardin Law hope the tow truck driver is able to recover from the injuries he suffered in this incident.

Tips for Avoiding Pedestrian Accidents on Foot or Behind the Wheel

Whether you’re behind the wheel or traveling on foot, avoiding a pedestrian accident should always be a high priority. These types of accidents can cause life-threatening and even fatal injuries for passengers and possible criminal charges for drivers. To reduce your risk of a pedestrian accident, follow these tips:

As a driver, you should:

  • Always yield to pedestrians.

Pedestrians have the right of way at stop sign crosswalks. They also have the right of way if they’re crossing the street and you’re attempting to turn right on red. And while you may encounter pedestrians who cross the street without a crosswalk or crossing signal, you should still yield the right of way to prevent an accident.

  • Drive slowly in residential and crowded urban areas.

Areas where people are most likely to be walking, including residential neighborhoods and urban areas with heavy foot traffic, are areas where pedestrian accidents are most likely to occur. That’s why it’s important to drive cautiously through these areas and always watch for pedestrians.

As a pedestrian, you should:

  • Only cross the street at crosswalks.

Jaywalking is punished with tickets or fines in most areas of the U.S. for good reason—pedestrians who cross the street without using crosswalks put themselves at high risk of being struck by vehicles. Only cross the street at designated areas and always look both ways before crossing. Drivers don’t always stop at stop signs or red lights, and it’s up to you protect yourself as a pedestrian.

  • Avoid walking at night if possible.

The risk of being injured in a pedestrian accident goes up after dark. Drivers are trained to look only for the headlights of other vehicles at night—not pedestrians. While wearing light-colored or reflective clothing can help make you more visible, the safest option is to avoid walking at night in the first place. If you do have to walk somewhere, stick to well-lit routes and walk against the flow of traffic.
