Nashville Neighborhood Residents Concerned about Speeding Drivers

Residents in neighborhoods throughout Nashville have growing concerns about the number of drivers who speed on residential roads—especially now that children are out of school for the summer and playing near those areas.

WKRN.com reports that some residents say they see vehicles traveling around 55 miles per hour in areas with speed limits of 30 miles per hour.

Most residential neighborhoods are equipped with multiple signs indicating that drivers should reduce their speed. These signs include traditional speed limit signs, signs that indicate children may be playing nearby, signs that indicate it’s a residential area, and even painted speed limits on the roadway itself.

Some residents believe that the increase in speeding traffic is due to drivers using residential roads as a way to bypass heavy traffic on nearby main roads.

A spokesperson with Metro Police says that residents who see drivers speeding through their neighborhoods should contact law enforcement and alert them of the issue.

In response to calls about speeding and drivers violating traffic laws, the MNPD will send patrol cars to monitor the area and increase speed limit and other traffic law enforcement efforts.

• Speeding is the top traffic violation associated with fatal car accidents, and the average American is more likely to be involved in a car crash than to be a victim of a crime. Because car accidents are so prevalent, it’s vital that drivers do their part to make roadways safer by always traveling at or below the speed limit.
