Towards the end of last month, rock-n-roll legend Little Richard was involved in a minor car accident in Murfreesboro. According to a report by USA Today, Richard Penniman—a.k.a. Little Richard—was riding as a passenger in his Cadillac SUV when a car pulled out in front of the SUV, causing the collision.
Evidently, the man driving Richard’s SUV was on South Church Street when another car pulled out from a parking lot right in front of it. The man driving the SUV attempted to swerve out of the way of the approaching vehicle but was unable to avoid the collision. The front end of the car dragged along the entire passenger side of the SUV, causing significant damage to both vehicles.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the two-vehicle accident. However, the driver of the car was cited for failure to yield and, if convicted, may face up to a six-month license suspension.
Failing to Yield Accidents
Some of the most common accidents we see are those that are caused when one vehicle fails to yield the right-of-way to another vehicle. These types of accidents are both common and dangerous, since they often occur at fairly high speeds because the driver with the right-of-way expects others to yield to him or her and may be traveling at a high rate of speed.
The most common right-of-way accidents are:
In each of these cases, one driver has the right-of-way, and the other driver is expected to allow that driver to proceed first. However, due to a variety of potential factors, a driver may not yield to a vehicle with the right of way. This may be because the driver is inexperienced, distracted, drunk, or being aggressive. In any case, there is no excuse not to follow the traffic laws.
When someone causes an accident because he or she failed to yield to the driver with the right-of-way, any victims of that accident may be able to look to the driver for financial responsibility.
