Rollover Accident Reported in Joelton Monday Morning

A man was seriously injured after his pickup truck rolled over and ended up on its roof in Joelton early Monday morning.

According to a report by WKRN.com, the accident occurred around 6 a.m. on Whites Creek Pike near Sycamore Creek Road. The man was initially trapped inside his truck and had to be rescued by firefighters who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash occurred.

Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital to receive treatment for his serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police and emergency workers closed Whites Creek Pike for around 30 minutes as they worked to investigate the crash and clear the accident scene.

All lanes were re-opened to traffic at around 7 a.m.

Tips for Preventing Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents are among the most dangerous types of car crashes. Drivers and passengers who are inside vehicles that flip and roll over are extremely likely to suffer serious and even life-threatening injuries.

Thankfully, rollover accidents account for only around three percent of all car crashes. Despite their rarity, it’s vital for drivers to be aware of the risks of these types of accidents and understand their causes and ways to prevent them.

You can reduce your chances of being involved in a rollover accident by:

  • Reducing your speed when navigating turns

Physics dictate that vehicles with a high center of gravity, such as SUVs, trucks, and minivans can be unsteady when navigating sharp turns. The effect is even more pronounced when the turns are taken at high speeds. However, high center of gravity vehicles aren’t the only ones at risk for rollover crashes, as even low-profile sedans can be at risk under certain conditions. Always reduce your speed when approaching a turn and avoid coming into contact with nearby objects such as guardrails or curbs.

  • Checking your tires and keeping them in good condition

Your vehicle’s tires are the only part of it that contact the road. That’s why it’s vital that you keep them in excellent condition at all times. Check the tread on your tires on a regular basis. If the tread appears worn, or if there are any foreign objects embedded in the tread, replace the affected tires immediately. You should also regularly check the air pressure to make sure your tires are properly inflated and match the manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Driving cautiously during inclement weather conditions

Bad weather significantly increases the risk of all types of accidents, including rollover crashes. Anything that reduces the traction your tires have on the roadway, including snow, ice, and rain, can make you more likely to lose control of your vehicle or hydroplane. When that happens, attempts to regain control can sometimes result in vehicles rolling. Reduced visibility due to heavy rainfall and fog is also a risk factor, as you may be unable to see sharp turns as you approach them.

Cautious and defensive driving is the best way to avoid all types of accidents, including rollover crashes. Even when you follow all recommended safety precautions, it’s still important to protect yourself as much as possible just in case you’re ever involved in a rollover accident. That means always wearing your seat belt and choosing vehicles that have electronic stability control systems and rollover air bags when you’re in the market for a new car, truck, van, or SUV.
