Tennessee Couple Die in Utah Head-On Collision

Posted in Car Accident,Negligence,Personal Injury on June 27, 2014

Earlier last week, a Tennessee couple was killed in a car accident in a National Park in Utah when a pick-up truck traveling in the opposite direction crossed into their lane. According to a report by the Salt Lake Tribune, the couple was driving east on Highway 24 in Capitol Reef National Park in southern Utah when the pick-up truck began to veer off the road. As the driver of the truck overcorrected, his truck was sent into the lane that the Tennesseans were traveling in. The truck collided head on with the passenger car.

The driver of the pick-up truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police have not yet issued a citation in relation to the accident, and they are still conducting an investigation into how the accident may have been caused.

Head-On Collisions: One of the Deadliest Types of Accidents

Of all the accidents we see, head-on collisions tend to be the most likely to result in fatalities. Often, head-on collisions involve two vehicles traveling at high speeds in opposite directions. This can magnify the amount of force involved in the accident, which can wreak havoc on vehicles, as well as their occupants.

Liability in Head-On Collisions

Although the police have yet to issue a citation in the fatal accident described above, it is likely that the truck driver will be cited for his failure to pay attention when he drifted off the road. While an overcorrection may be a natural result of drifting off the road, the question we must ask is why was the car drifting off the road in the first place?

When one party is responsible for an accident that causes another party personal injury or property damage, the injured party is entitled to recover the cost of their medical bills, plus an amount for their pain and suffering, from the party that was at fault.

While it may be easy to determine who was at fault, as it probably will be in this accident, many Tennessee accidents occupy more of a gray area. Thus, the assistance of an experienced Tennessee personal injury attorney is beneficial to the accident victim in proving their case and seeking the award they deserve.
