Wrong-Way Accident on Nashville Interstate Sends Three to Local Hospitals

Another wrong-way accident in Nashville sent three people to local hospitals early Tuesday morning after two vehicles collided on Interstate 24.

According to a report by wkrn.com, the accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction collided with another vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 near Silliman Evans Bridge. The collision ultimately involved multiple vehicles.

The driver and passenger in the vehicle that was struck by the wrong-way driver had to be extricated from the wreckage by emergency responders, and they were both transported to a local hospital for treatment.

In addition, the wrong-way driver also suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital, and Nashville Metro Police say that they are investigating the driver for driving under the influence at the time of the accident.

The impact of the collision caused police to shut down both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 24 for nearly one hour as they worked to clear the scene.

At Matt Hardin Law, our Nashville personal injury lawyers hope the victims of this accident are able to fully recover from their injuries.

What Should You Do in the Minutes after a Car Accident?

The immediate aftermath of a car accident is far different from the aftermath during the days, weeks, and months down the road. If you were just involved in a car accident, the seconds and minutes after it happens can feel surreal, and it can be difficult to process information and make rational choices. However, there are a few important things you should remember:

  • Move your vehicle out of traffic unless someone is seriously injured.

After the initial impact, you may think that the worst is over. However, it’s not uncommon for accident victims to be involved in another secondary accident due to oncoming traffic. That’s why, if possible, it’s important to move your vehicle to the side of the road. Tennessee law protects drivers from being considered at-fault for accidents simply for moving their vehicles. However, if someone is seriously injured, you should stay where you are and wait for medical help to arrive.

  • Call 911 right away.

Even if you don’t think you’re seriously injured, it’s not only vital for your health to call 911, it’s also required by law to report all accidents and allow police to fill out an accident report. You should also never assume that someone else, whether it’s a victim or someone in the other vehicle, has already called the police. Place the phone call yourself as soon as possible and wait for help to arrive.

  • Document the crash scene.

If you’re capable of doing so, make mental and physical notes of the crash and crash scene. Write down the other driver’s contact information, as well as any pertinent details about the accident, including the circumstances that led up to it. You can also take pictures of the accident scene with your smartphone or camera. The more evidence you can collect before you leave the accident scene, the stronger your claim may be.
