Earlier this month in Hardin County, a truck driver collided head-on with a fire truck, resulting in the death of both drivers. According to a recent report by one local news source, the accident occurred on Holland Creek Road at around 9:30 in the morning.
Evidently, the fire truck was responding to a call for a house fire when the driver of the fire truck crossed the double-yellow line and collided head-on with the truck. The fire department was able to make it to the home, but it was too late and the home was not able to be saved.
Both drivers were pronounced dead shortly after the accident. The driver of the log truck was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. It is unclear whether the firefighter was wearing his seat belt. Residents who live near the site of the crash told reporters that the location of the accident is a very dangerous section of road that has a lot of curves in that particular section and that it sees a number of accidents each year.
Head-On Collisions on Tennessee Roads
The winding country roads of rural Tennessee are certainly beautiful, but they are also dangerous. Often, these roads are narrow, have a lot of curves, and have speed limits that are higher than one may expect. The result is a dangerous mix of circumstances that increases the risk of head-on collisions.
Unlike other types of collisions, a head-on collision is usually the fault of only one party. In cases such as the one described above, where one vehicle crosses a double-yellow line, that driver is likely going to be held responsible for the accident.
